Inspiration Behind the Pattern

This donkey lovey was inspired by the surprising story in Numbers 22, where Balak, king of Moab, fears the Israelites and hires the prophet Balaam to curse them. Despite God’s command not to go, Balaam proceeds, leading to the famous episode where an angel blocks his path, and his donkey talks to him after being beaten.

The story is unusual and memorable, reminding us that God sometimes works through unexpected messengers to guide and protect. As I reflected on this passage during the Through the Bible CAL, the idea for this donkey lovey felt like a reminder that the things slowing us down may sometimes be moments of God’s mercy along the road.

This pattern is one part of a larger Numbers 22–36 devotional exploring the journey of faith

Once that is done, embroider the eyes and nose on the head. Now you have a lovely Crochet Donkey Lovey.

  1. this donkey is adorbs, but why oh why do you make the directions so dag nab hard by having one go here for the head, here for the ears, etc? also why don’t you just put how much of yarn/color will be needed for the entire project right up front? is having the stitcher go from here and there a sales ploy in hopes that we will get frustrated 😡 and buy the pdf? I find this soooo maddening!

    1. Hi Irene. Thank you! This pattern is a combination of my granny square pattern and Amigurumi Today’s crochet zebra pattern. As such, I cannot post part of her pattern on my website. There is no ploy to get you to purchase a pdf for this pattern because there is no pdf for this pattern. With regards to yardage, I will calculate that and update this post on the same. Thanks again and I hope that makes things clear for you and have a delightful day!
