  • This pattern starts with a magic ring. For a detailed tutorial on how to work and secure the magic ring, read through my blog post on the same.
  • Repeating sections within the rounds are shown in round () brackets followed by the number of times they are repeated e.g. (Dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) 11 times means the sequence in the brackets must be repeated a total of 11 times.
  • Stitch totals are shown in square [] brackets at the end of each round e.g. [12] means you should have a total of 12 stitches at the end of the round.
  • Make all colour changes in the last 2 loops of the final stitch of the old colour.

  1. In looking at your Eye Granny Square, It seems more of an eye when looked at it as more of a diamond than a square. So maybe we can start thinking of them as Eye Granny Diamonds! A whole new field of crochet patterns! They can still make a regular blanket rectangle, but you have to make half-diamonds to fill in the ends… (does that make any sense to you? I ramble a lot!!)

    1. I totally get you Claudia. Love the enthusiasm!! Thought about the same thing about the blanket. I have so many ideas and can’t wait to start sharing them.

  3. Love this pattern! On Rnd 4 how did you get 48 stitches? have worked it a few times and keep ending up with 30 some odd stitches. Is there an update to this pattern? thanks!

    1. Hi Samantha. Thank you. Round 4 does total to 48 stitches. All the increases and repeats can get a tad confusing so I’d suggest zooming in on the picture and comparing it to your piece to see if you missed any stitches. Let me know if you have any more questions. Have a wonderful day.

      1. Hi Vicki, here is a detailed breakdown of the stitch counts:

Rnd 4: Using C4, ch 1 [1 st made; total of 1 st]
        • Sc in the next st. (Inc, sc in each of the next 2 sts) 3 times. [13 sts made; total of 14 sts]
        • Hdc in the next st, 2 hdc in the next st, dc in the next st. [4 sts made; total of 18 sts]
        • 2 tr in next st. Dc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st. Sc in each of the next 2 sts. [8 sts made; total of 26]
        • (Inc, sc in each of the next 2 sts) 3 times. Hdc in the next st, 2 hdc in the next st, dc in the next st. [16 sts made; total of 42 sts]
        • 2 tr in next st. Dc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st. [6 sts made; total of 48 sts]
        • Join using sl st to 1st st of the rnd. [48 sts in total]

  4. I found this article because I found a translated version of your pattern at another site. I was looking for more people who are a victim of that site owner because I found a copy of a pattern I designed at that website without my permission. That website is stealing content of others , yours included. you can find this pattern at the website ‘crochetisimo’ under category “granny squares”.

    1. Hello Tamara. Inc means increase. This is when you work 2 stitches into the same stitch or space. For example in round 4 when it says “…(Inc, sc in each of the next 2 sts)…” it means the same as “(2sc in the next stitch, sc in each of the next 2 sts)”.
